problems with solution not shutting off

I am happy with the machine and the job it does but have had problems with the water not shutting off when the solution switch is either let go (up) or when it is shut off after being in the continuous mode. I have been told that water is causing this problem due to crud in the water but have never experienced this in any other machine that I have used and have been shampooing carpets for over 25 years. They tell me that the cellenoid does not work properly but my question is why? I clean out the machine after each use and clean with delimer from time to time so what is causing the problem?
